VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott
"This outdoor season tested us in many ways. We faced a number of injuries that challenged our depth, but we fought through adversity and stayed committed. Along the way, we recognized and celebrated our achievements while learning valuable lessons on the track, in the classroom and about each other.

"We also said farewell to an outstanding group of senior leaders. Among them, a remarkable number chose the path of service: Three of four graduating women and seven out of nine graduating men earned commissions all into the Army. Their leadership, example, and the school records they helped break this year have raised the standard for all who follow.

"Looking ahead, we will spend the summer making key adjustments based on what we've learned. We'll return with a renewed focus and determined group of Keydets, led by our newly appointed team captains:
  • Benjamin Hagerich, 1st Classman – Computer Science Major, Cross Country/Middle Distance
  • Shea Hart, 1st Classman – Biology Major, Heptathlon/Pentathlon/Hurdles
  • Cameron Thomas, 2nd Classman – Economics & Business Major, Pole Vault
  • Jillian Sisk, 2nd Classman – Civil Engineering Major, Cross Country/Distance
"The future is bright not only because of the commitment of our cadet-athletes, but also thanks to the new indoor Mondo track surface currently under construction in the Corps Physical Training Facility. This upgrade is a reflection of our continued investment in success.

"As we look toward the 2025–2026 season, remember our mindset: Expect more. Do more. Dare to be great."
