LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball had three representatives - seniors Ryan Peterson and Caden Plummer and junior Marcus Van Alstine - named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams as announced by the CSC office on Tuesday.
 
The 2025 Academic All-District Baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nomination requirements include a sophomore or above academic standing, a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA, and, in baseball, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings. 
 
Peterson, an international studies major, earned the starting catching role, playing in 53 games while starting in 52. The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native batted .298 with 51 hits and 45 RBIs. Peterson led the team with 22 hit by pitches, ranking third in VMI single-season history.
 
Plummer, a civil engineering major, was VMI's top arm as he started the season in the rotation before earning a closing role in the final weeks. Plummer boasted a team-best 5.55 ERA with four victories and one save in 14 appearances and 10 starts. The righty had 50 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched, and only allowed 16 walks, earning a team-best 2.40 walks per nine innings mark and a 1.37 WHIP.
 
Van Alstine, an international studies major, led the squad with three saves, finishing his VMI career with 10 saves, the sixth-most in program history. The right-handed reliever posted three victories, leading to 53 punchouts with only 19 walks in 22 appearances, a team high, and 56 innings. Alstine was one of two Keydets to claim a shutout after closing the door on Coppin State in February.
