Keydets open series with loss to Bucs

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball was downed by East Tennessee State on Friday night at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.
 
The Keydets (26-21, 5-11 SoCon) fell to the Buccaneers, 9-2, to begin the final home series. VMI has dropped its last six Southern Conference games.
 
Key Stats
- VMI had two runs off five hits with two RBIs.
- Ryan Peterson and Ayden Schnarrs each tallied an RBI.
- Grayson Fitzwater extended his on-base streak to a record-tying 42 games.
- The Keydets' four through eight hitters in the lineup recorded all five hits.
- Boston Torres scored his 63rd run of the season, the second-most runs in a single season.
- Justin Spiegel tossed three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
- Peterson was hit by two pitches to move up to fourth in VMI single-season history.

Scoring Summary
- ETSU scored in the second inning.
- The Keydets were able to keep it a one-run game until late in the game when the Bucs plated two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and three more in the ninth to make it 9-0.
- However, VMI was able to make a push in the final inning after Peterson doubled in one run and Schnarrs drove in another on a sacrifice fly.
