Keydets overpowered by Bulldogs’ offense in rubber match

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball faltered in the series finale to Samford Saturday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.

The Keydets (25-16, 5-7 SoCon) could not stop the Bulldogs' explosive offense, falling 16-4 in seven innings to close out the series.

Key Stats
- VMI posted four runs off 11 hits with three RBIs.
- Kazuya Jordan drove in two runs.
- Owen Prince and Ryan Peterson recorded two hits apiece, with each earning a double.
- James Newsome went two for three with a run.
- Bradley Garner tallied a double and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games.
- Nolan Williamson pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief.
- Boston Torres and Grayson Fitzwater extend their respective on-base streaks to 41 and 36 games.

Scoring Summary
- The Bulldogs put up four runs in the opening inning.
- A Garner double would put VMI on the board, and then a trick play on the base path later scored Garner and cut the deficit to two.
- Samford put up two more runs in the second inning, right before VMI retaliated with a run off an infield single by Jordan.
- The Bulldogs plated six in the fourth.
- Jordan's sacrifice fly scored Ayden Schnarrs in the fourth inning, but Samford continued its offensive clinic with three runs in the sixth to force the run rule.

Next up for the Keydets
The Keydets start a four-game road trip, starting with a midweek trip to Radford, followed by a three-game conference series against The Citadel next weekend.
