Keydets complete comeback, walk off Crusaders in series finale

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball scored eight unanswered runs to earn a walk-off win over Holy Cross Sunday at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.

The Keydets move to 12-3 after rebounding back-to-back losses yesterday with a 16-15 victory over the Crusaders in the series finale. VMI is now 12-0 when scoring 10 or more runs against their opponents.

- VMI tallied 16 runs off 16 hits with 15 RBIs.
- The Keydets drew eight walks and stole five bases.
- VMI recorded seven extra base hits, including a pair of homers from Grayson Fitzwater and Kazuya Jordan.
- Jordan singled in the bottom of the ninth, earning the walk-off RBI.
- Fitzwater had two hits with seven RBIs that included a grand slam, his second of the season.
- Bradley Garner was walked four times.
- Boston Torres went three for five with a team-high three runs.

- Jordan's solo shot cut the deficit to just three in the fourth inning.
- VMI was within one in the sixth inning after Fitzwater singled in two runs, but Holy Cross rebounded with five runs in the next two innings.
- Down 15-8, the Keydets would score eight runs in the eighth and ninth innings, starting with a grand slam from Fitzwater and followed by a bases-loaded walk and a balk that made the game 15-14.
- In the ninth, Garner scored on a groundout to tie it right before Seth Buchanan singled to advance the runner to third and then Jordan stepped up to the plate and drove a ball to the centerfield wall that scored Cole Cook.
