VMI Baseball falls short in offensive shootout against Stonehill

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball put up 19 runs but could not catch up to Stonehill's slugging offense Tuesday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.

The Keydets fall to 12-4 overall after suffering a 23-19 loss to the Skyhawks. Between the two sides, there were 42 runs scored and 35 total hits.

- VMI had 19 runs off 16 hits with 19 RBIs.
- 19 runs is the most runs scored in a loss in program history.
- The Keydets drew eight walks and only struck out twice in 41 at-bats.
- VMI posted eight extra-base hits including three home runs and swiped five bags.
- Owen Prince and Bradley Garner each went three for five, scoring three runs and driving in five RBIs apiece, along with earning one home run.
- Garner tallied two doubles.
- Kazuya Jordan also went three for five with a pair of runs.
- Boston Torres and Grayson Fitzwater had a pair of hits and three RBIs each with Fitzwater posting his fifth home run of the season.

- VMI answered with four runs in the next half inning, starting with a Torres sacrifice fly and then following with a Garner RBI double and a two-run shot by Fitzwater.
- The Skyhawks regained the lead in the third, 6-4.
- In the fourth inning, the Keydets flipped the script with a four-run frame, scoring off a Prince single and a pair of batted balls in the infield to make it 8-6.
- However, Stonehill stormed back in the fifth with 11 runs and posted four more in the seventh to make it 21-8.
- With their backs against the wall, VMI was able to make it close, scoring nine runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning off five hits including a three-run rocket by Garner to cut the deficit to just four.
- Despite the surge, Stonehill answered with two more runs.
- Prince homered in the eighth inning to make it 23-18 before Fitzwater doubled in another run to end the scoring at 23-19.
 

 
Next up for the Keydets
The Keydets look to rebound tomorrow against the Skyhawks to close out the homestand. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
