Early deficit haunts Keydets in series opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball had an uphill battle against UNC Greensboro on Friday at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.

The Keydets (16-10, 2-2 SoCon) dropped their first home Southern Conference bout against the Spartans, 9-7. Both sides brought out the hot bats, combining for 26 hits.

- The Keydets swiped four bags.
- Grayson Fitzwater and Boston Torres each homered to extend their on-base streaks to 21 and 26 games, respectively.
- Fitzwater went three for four with three RBIs and three runs.

- Owen Prince and Bradley Garner tallied two hits apiece.

- With the winning run at the dish and two outs in the ninth inning, VMI came up just short of a comeback.
