Keydets tame Lancers in road victory

FARMVILLE, Va. – VMI Baseball gets back in the win column with a big road win against Longwood at Buddy Bolding Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Keydets earn their 14th win of the season after a 9-7 victory against the Lancers. VMI scored two runs late in the game to recapture the lead and seal Longwood's fate. This is the first game the Keydets have won without scoring double-digit runs.

- VMI scored nine runs off seven hits with seven RBIs.
- The Keydet staffers combined for 16 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the final five innings.
- Andrew Jones picks up his third win after going 4.2 innings, allowing just two hits and no runs, while striking out seven.
- Jaxon Lloyd started the game off solid, punching out six.
- Earning his first save of the year was Evan Parmer who struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth.

- The Keydets knotted it up at two apiece after Garner earned VMI's second sacrifice with a sacrifice fly.
- It was a big fourth inning for both sides as each team produced five runs apiece in the frame.
- After Jordan swiped second and forced a Lancer throwing error, Perry was able to sneak home to take the lead.
- Owen Prince earned an RBI on a groundout before Garner stepped up with two runners on and smashed a long home run over the left field fence to go up 7-2.
- Longwood recovered with a bases-loaded walk and a grand slam.
- In the seventh inning, Ayden Schnarrs fouled off six pitches before making clean contact, sending an RBI single into right field to put the Keydets out front, 8-7.
- Raile scored on a wild pitch to extend VMI's lead.



 
Next up for the Keydets
The Keydets start Southern Conference play this weekend at Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The three-game series will begin on Friday and roll through Sunday.
