BUIES CREEK, N.C. – VMI Wrestling put up a battle against Campbell, but could not complete the comeback at Gore Arena Sunday evening.
The Keydets (5-9, 1-4 SoCon) challenged a top-tier Camel squad, 24-17. VMI was within striking distance before Campbell scored match-sealing points in the ninth bout. The Keydets also secured a nationally-ranked win at 165 pounds, the team's fourth ranked win of the year.
VMI's first points came from 149-pounder
Patrick Jordon who nabbed his 10th-straight victory after a tight 2-1 decision that came down to riding time. Following up was
Ryan Vigil at 165 pounds who tallied an 11-7 decision over #29 Dom Baker, earning his third-straight SoCon bout win and first over a ranked opponent.
Braxton Lewis capped off the Keydets' day by blanking his opponent by technical fall, 16-0 in 5:11.
Josh Evans scored the final six points off a forfeit in the heavyweight.
