LEXINGTON, Va. – After opening the season in the VMI Invite, the VMI Water Polo Team hits the road for the first time in the 2025 season, traveling to St. Paul, Minnesota for compete in the Macalester Invite February 14-16.
VMI will open up against host Macalester Friday, competing twice on Saturday and once Sunday.

Starting Fast
The Keydets began the season on January 31 with a 13-12 victory over Toronto, splitting action the next day before topping Austin College 16-10 to close out the weekend. The 3-1 start for VMI is the best start during fifth-year head coach
Danielle Montenegro's tenure, and best start since 2020.
Sydney Smith is off to a blistering start, netting 15 goals with a .600 shot percentage while
Sarah Fitzsimmons and
Sadie Smith each scored 10 through four games.
Maddie Day,
Ysabel Casillas and
Taylor Hammond each saw action in net, totaling 31 saves.
Scouting the Opponents
Macalester has not competed this season, but went 14-5 in the 2024 campaign. Augustana is 1-1 on the young season, but fell to a common opponent (McKendree) 9-5. Carthage, meanwhile, dropped a contest to Augustana (4-14) and is just 1-8 thus far. The Keydets will close out the weekend with a familiar opponent, facing the 7-3 McKendree Bearcats whom they dropped the February 1 matchup to by a score of 15-12. Last year, VMI was 1-3 in the Macalester Invite.
