LEXINGTON, Va. – Danielle Montenegro announced the 2026 VMI Water Polo Schedule on Thursday, as she gears up for her sixth season at the helm of the program.
The schedule features non-conference trips to California, Minnesota and Rhode Island/Boston, along with two home tournaments.
This year we start off our season much sooner than usual with games starting just two weeks after our return," Montenegro said. "We open with a trip to California, where we will have four solid games. We follow that with a weekend home in early February, where we plan to celebrate our senior class. Other highlights include a trip to Boston to play Brown and Harvard, and our usual trip to Minnesota for the Macalester Invite."
The Keydets open the season on January 22 out in California, playing four games before returning home to host the VMI Invite.
After four contests at home, VMI travels to Minnesota for four games and up north to face Brown (in Providence) and Harvard (in Boston) before opening up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
"Our conference schedule looks different this year," said Montenegro. "We will only face our conference opponents once - this makes each conference game even more important."
On March 13, the Keydets will stop at Mount St. Mary's on their way to Villanova for conference contests against La Salle and Marist, traveling to Marist the following weekend for games against Iona and Villanova.
The regular season will close at home, as the annual VMI-MAAC Showcase sees the Keydets facing off against Wagner, Siena and LIU, with the MAAC Tournament being held April 9-12.
