Keydets topped by Bears in SoCon battle

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking to pick up its first Southern Conference victory of the season, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 score to visiting Mercer University Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.
 
With the win, the Bears improve to 6-5-2, 1-2-2 while the Keydets fall to 1-12-1, 0-5-0.
 
Game Summary
Kelsie Henton of Mercer earned the game-winning goal midway through the opening half when she took a free kick by Regan Moore that landed in the goal box and snuck it past VMI keeper Maren Ryberg in the 30th minute (29:18).
 
The Bears (6-5-2, 1-2-2) tacked on another goal late in the second half when Peyton Kreul took a cross from Morganne Eikelbarner in the 78th minute (77:12) and shot it past Ryberg for an insurance goal with a little over 12 minutes left in regulation.
