LEXINGTON, Va. – Battling back and outscoring the Bulldogs 15-3 in the second half, the VMI Football Team could not connect on a potential game-winning field goal in the last minute of play, ultimately falling 24-22 to Samford on Saturday.
"I'm proud of the effort," said Head Coach
Danny Rocco. "But the outcome is just very painful. I feel bad for our coaches, I feel bad for these kids to be suffering through these defeats. This was a winnable game at home, came down to the end and we missed a chip shot but there were a lot of opportunities throughout the game to create a different outcome."
The Keydets drop to 1-6 and 0-3 in conference play, while Samford improves to 1-6 and 1-4 in the SoCon. VMI will hit the road next week, visiting Mercer.

Rocco's Remarks
On the Play in the Second Half
"In the first half the offense did not show up, but I thought we breathed life into our performance in all three phases…We were very resilient in the second half. We made some big stops. The path we took to be aggressive in the second half gave us a chance, we just couldn't come through in the big moments."
