Bradley named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI junior guard Rickey Bradley, Jr. has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for his accomplishments last week in wins over Western Carolina and The Citadel.

The league honor is the first of Bradley's career and marks the first time since the 2021-22 season a VMI basketball player has received the weekly award from the conference.

Between the two games, Bradley totaled 43 points on the week to average 21.5 points per game, including 29 in VMI's big win at The Citadel Saturday. The 29 points was just one away from his career high of 30 set two weeks ago against Mercer.

"Rick is very deserving of this recognition and all of VMI Nation is proud of him," said VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson. "Since his return to Post, his commitment to the Institute and our basketball program has been extraordinary. Rick embodies the characteristics of a VMI cadet-athlete and his leadership and sacrifice has been inspiring."

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native averaged 38.5 minutes per game - including a complete 40 minutes at The Citadel – and poured in six three-pointers during the week which included hitting four of five against the Bulldogs Saturday.

He also totaled 12 rebounds during the week to go with a combined six assists and three steals.

VMI's wins over Western Carolina and The Citadel were significant in that it marked the first time in three years the Keydets had won two conference games in a row. It was also VMI's second time defeating rival The Citadel the past three meetings and the second time in three years taking down the Bulldogs on their home court. VMI's win over Western Carolina ended a five-game losing skid to the Catamounts in the all-time series.

The Keydets play two home games this week as they will face Furman Wednesday night before taking on UNCG Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall.
