Keydets down Catamounts for first league win of season

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team held strong to a one-point halftime lead with great execution on both ends of the court to claim a 66-50 win over visiting Western Carolina Wednesday night at Cameron Hall.

With the win, VMI improves to 7-11, 1-4 on the year while the Cats fall to 5-11, 1-4 for the season.

Game Summary
The Keydets and Catamounts battled back and forth in the opening half as VMI would build gradual leads before Western Carolina would quickly catch back up. The Keydets built an eight-point lead midway through the first stanza but the Catamounts chipped away until the final buzzer of the half to go into the break down by one point to VMI, 29-28.

VMI fell behind early in the second half, 35-31, three minutes in before TJ Johnson hit a big three to give momentum back to the Keydets. VMI trailed just once more in the game at 42-41 midway through the half, but a Rickey Bradley three at the 9:41 mark gave the lead back to the Keydets they would not relinquish again. The Keydets had the lead for 35 minutes throughout the contest.

VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson
"I'm very proud of our guys for bouncing back tonight. It was a great team victory and we fought for 40 minutes. We were not happy with how we played this past weekend and wanted to get our spirit and fight back. We have high character guys and great leadership in our locker room."
