Second-half rally lifts Keydets over Gardner-Webb

LEXINGTON, Va. – Down 1-0 midway through the second half, the VMI women's soccer team rallied for two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn a 2-1 victory over visiting Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.

The teams went scoreless through the opening 45 minutes of play before the schools traded goals in the latter stanza. The Bulldogs (1-7-1) outshot the Keydets (4-3-1) by a 9-4 margin in the second half, but VMI took advantage of its opportunities en route to the win.

VMI Head Coach Chris Haught-Thompson
"I thought it was a very physical game. What we learned from Thursday's night's loss is that we let our foot off the gas when we got down by a goal. We challenged our team to play a complete game. We gave up a goal on a set piece, but we put our foot down playing at home and clawed back into the game over the last 20 minutes. It was an awesome goal by Cam Jones to score for her first time at VMI, then Barrett worked hard to get inside the box and get past the defender before she was clipped. I'm proud of our fight. To get a win is special, and now we get to take a winning record into conference play which is special for the group that we have here."
