Women’s Soccer falls to Winthrop to end road swing

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The VMI women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 score to host Winthrop University to finish a four-game road swing Thursday night in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
 
The two schools battled to a scoreless draw at the half as the Keydets (3-3-1, 0-0() outshot the Eagles (3-3, 0-0) by a commanding 9-1 margin but could not find the back of the net. Winthrop keeper Mia Vrataric logged three saves in the opening period and added another in the second half to finish with four saves on the night to preserve the Winthrop win.

*Winthrop's Monssi Avila-Gutierrez scored the first goal for the Eagles in the 68th minute (67:51) off an assist by Sophia Balliet
*The Eagles registered a security goal 12 minutes later in the 80th minute (79:13) when Cameron Celce snuck a goal in from deep in VMI territory
