Keydets get back on track with 8-2 victory over Eagles

HANOVER, Md. – VMI Baseball (25-23, 6-9 SoCon) opened the month of May with a much-needed win over Coppin State (12-24, 11-13 NEC) Wednesday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.

The Keydets bounced back from last weekend's tough stretch and took down the Eagles, 8-2, for their 25th win of the campaign. VMI will ride into the weekend with confidence and face a talented Southern Conference foe to potentially move up in the league standings.
 
Key Stats
- Keydets racked up seven walks and stole seven bags
- Jack Thompson went seven innings in his first start on the mound, allowing just one earned run off four hits while striking out five to earn his second win of 2024
- After recording a hit in the first inning and earning a team-high two RBI, Trey Morgan extended his on-base streak to 34 games
- Justin Starke recorded a pair of hits including a double for his 19th multi-hit game of the season
- Jed Barrett also produced a pair of hits
- Morgan and Owen Prince each walked twice

- Scoring continued after Prince walked in a run followed by a Morgan sacrifice fly and a Grayson Fitzwater RBI double to make it 7-1
- Eagles returned fire in the seventh with another run but the Keydets struck in the eighth after Prince stole home to extend the lead to 8-2
