VMI Baseball opens series with loss

Saturday's game postponed, moved to Sunday as doubleheader

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – VMI Baseball (25-24, 6-10 SoCon) had a tough start to its series against East Tennessee State (28-15, 10-6 SoCon) Friday afternoon at Thomas Stadium.

The Keydets' conference woes continue after falling to the Buccaneers, 8-3. VMI can bounce back tomorrow and knot up the series.
 
Key Stats
- Four of the Keydets' six hits were extra-base hits
- Grayson Fitzwater went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double, and a home run
- Trey Morgan earned a hit to extend his on-base streak to 35 games
- Owen Prince extended his hitting streak to 10 games and his on-base streak to 20 games
- Three Keydets were hit by a pitch
- Prince and Cole Jenkins each doubled
- Morgan dished out four strikeouts on the mound

Scoring Summary
- Despite ETSU getting the first run in the first frame, VMI tied it in the fifth after Kazuya Jordan scored on a Justin Starke RBI groundout
- Bucs put up six runs between the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to extend their lead
- In the top of the eighth, Fitzwater powered a two-run homer to right field to cut the deficit to four
- ETSU followed up with one more run to make it 8-3
