VMI faced stiff competition recently, battling No. 22 Long Island, No. 17 Wagner and a strong Villanova squad without a single field player as a sub. The Smith duo combined for 12 goals on Sunday, while
Courtney Novotny had a hat trick against Wagner.
On the season, Novotny continues to pace VMI with a career-best 61 goals in 20 games.
Sydney Smith has 49 scores while
Sadie Smith has totaled 39.
Ysabel Casillas has gotten the majority of minutes in net, totaling 124 saves.
Scouting the Opponents
Villanova enters the weekend with a 19-7 record and are a perfect 6-0 at home. Siena, meanwhile, is 7-15 but all seven wins have come at neutral sites, while Iona is 10-12 overall and 5-8 at neutral venues.
A short-handed Keydets squad held strong just a couple of weeks ago in Brooklyn, as six Keydets scored before falling to the Wildcats 19-9. VMI has owned the Siena series 14-7, but the Saints got the best of the Keydets when they played a year ago. In the team's last four matchups, each has registered two wins, with VMI taking a home contest in 2022 (18-14). Iona topped the Keydets in Philly last season, as VMI enters Sunday looking to snap a three-game skid in the series.
