Lacrosse opens MAAC play at home against LIU

LEXINGTON, Va. – Off to its best start in 24 years, the VMI lacrosse team opens conference play against Long Island University Saturday at noon on Drill Field #2 in Lexington.
 
The Keydets (4-2, 0-0) will face off against the Sharks (3-1, 0-0) as both squads look to begin league action with a victory.  
 
Saturday's game marks the first ESPN+ broadcast of the season at home for the Keydets.

VMI is riding a three-game winning streak with its most recent victory coming over Detroit Mercy by a 15-10 score at a neutral site in Columbus, Ohio. Austin English and Luke Rusterucci led the way for the Keydets with four goals apiece in the win. Rusterucci has now scored at least one goal in 24 consecutive games.
 
About the Sharks (3-1)
Looking for a second straight win over VMI after defeating the Keydets by a 14-13 count a year ago on Long Island, the Sharks are also riding three-game win streak heading into conference play. After falling to Monmouth, 10-14, back on Feb. 10, the Sharks have since defeated Merrimack, Lindenwood and UMass Lowell.
 
Tom von Bargen leads the team with eight goals thus far on the season while Cam Connolly and Aidan Zuhoski both have seven. Sean Boll and Mark Regan lead the Sharks with eight helpers apiece with both contributing six goals on the year.
 
Starting goalie Jasper Simon owns a 3-0 mark and a 7.00 goals-against average to go with 22 saves and .512 save percentage.
