LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Water Polo Team returned to action Saturday morning, registering a thrilling 13-12 victory over Mercyhurst to start the day before falling to Toronto later in the day.

Game 1 – Win, 13-12 vs. Mercyhurst
- Sadie Smith and Sarah Fitzsimmons score two to open the game, Mercyhurst responds with three unanswered (2-3 after 1 quarter)
- Both sides would trade goals as time winded down in the second
- VMI scores three to end the half with a 7-5 advantage, extends lead to four in the third
- Mercyhurst nets 6-of-7 to hold a one-goal lead with 2:27 remaining
- Sadie Smith buried the equalizer with 1:57 remaining, and a late possession led to a Sydney Smith game-winner with one second to play
Game 2 – L, 3-13 vs. Toronto
- Toronto strikes first, but Sydney Smith and Novotny give the Keydets an early 2-1 advantage
- Varsity Blues the next four before Novotny finds the net once again
- With Toronto having the depth advantage, the Varsity Blues score down the stretch to take the contest
