VMI falls to Western Carolina

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team had its return to Cameron Hall spoiled as the visiting Western Carolina Catamounts defeated the Keydets, 84-51, Saturday afternoon in Lexington.
 
The Keydets returned home following a three-game road swing but struggled to find the bottom of the net in the early going and registered its first basket nearly seven minutes into the contest. Fortunately, the Catamounts also struggled and could only muster a 10-0 lead during the opening stretch.
 
The Catamounts (20-9, 9-7) gradually found their rhythm, however, and slowly built a 20-8 lead midway through the period before extending the lead to 44-21 over the Keydets by halftime.
 
VMI played better in the second half and scored 30 points, but Western Carolina added 40 points of its own in the latter stanza en route to the conference road win.
 
Taeshaud Jackson II tied his career high with 16 boards on the day, tying the mark he initially earned last season in VMI's road win at The Citadel. He also matched his season high with one block, while AJ Clark also tied his season high with one block.
