VMI Baseball Hosts Georgetown for Home Opener This Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball (2-3) opens up its 2024 home slate this weekend at newly-renovated Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium with a three-game series versus Georgetown University.

New Look:
-VMI's baseball complex has a new all-weather AstroTurf playing surface thanks to the generosity of Michael Lamore '85 and the VMI Keydet Club. The complex also has a new name, Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium, in honor of Lamore's generosity. The project finished in the fall, and the new turf will be debuted in game action for the first time this weekend. For more on the project, click here.
 
Last Time Out:
-VMI took down Norfolk State on the road by an 11-9 final on Tuesday.
-The Keydets jumped out to an 9-1 lead and held off a late Spartan rally to secure the win
-Nathan Hawley dazzled in 5 innings of work, conceding two hits and one unearned run
-Marcus Van Alstine struck out the side to secure the save after giving up a leadoff double
-Ty Swaim and Cole Raile hit their first home runs of the season
-Cole Jenkins continued his hot start with a double, triple and four RBI
-Owen Prince reached base four times and scored three times from the leadoff spot
-The Keydet pitching staff struck out 15 batters and walked just two
-VMI stole 11 bases in 13 attempts
 
Scouting the Hoyas:
-Georgetown (1-3) picked up its first win of the season Wednesday by taking down Navy 5-3
-The Hoyas scored four runs in the top of the 9th inning after trailing 3-1 entering the frame
-Georgetown opened up its season at the MLB Desert Invitational with three close losses to Grand Canyon, Cal and Kansas State
-Georgetown is coming off back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history
