Keydets fall to The Citadel on the road

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– Down 34-30 at the break, a slow start to the second half hindered the VMI basketball team as The Citadel earned a 76-51 victory over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at McAlister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina.
 
After halftime, The Citadel (10-17, 2-12) held VMI (4-23, 1-13) to four points over the first eight minutes of the latter half as the Bulldogs went on a 20-4 run to lead, 54-34, with 11:47 left to play. The Bulldogs continued to clamp down on defense the remainder of the game to outscore the Keydets 42-21 over the final 20 minutes.
 
With VMI leading scorer Brennan Watkins sitting out due to injury, freshman Corey Chesley continued to show his abilities by scoring six points on a season-high two treys to go with a season-best three steals on defense.

*VMI was led by sophomore Taeshaud Jackson II, who scored 13 points on the afternoon. Freshman Stephen Olowoniyi also registered double digits with 11 points by going 5-7 from the field in addition to tying his season high with three blocks on the defensive end
*The Bulldogs had four players tally double figures led by 19 from AJ Smith. Elijah Morgan earned 15 for the day and Quentin Millora-Brown had 13.
*The Citadel outrebounded the Keydets by a 37-29 margin
*The Bulldogs took advantage of 21 VMI turnovers with 25 points off turnovers and had 25 points on fast break opportunities
 
Up Next
