2LEXINGTON, Va. – After two days of breaking records to start the 2024 America East Championship, the VMI Swim and Dive program continued to outdo itself, smashing 11 program records on Friday.
The 11 records (rat and team) gives VMI 21 new program marks in the last three days of competition
Men's Marks
- Ethan Griffith earns the silver medal in 400 IM program record time of 3:58.62 – four seconds faster than the third-place finisher in that event
- Tyer Blackwell sets the VMI team record with a prelims time of 49.82 in the men's 100 butterfly
- Leading off the 400 medley relay, Sam Castle swam a team and rat record in the 100 backstroke
- After the prelims, Max Brunner would set a new rat record in the 100-yard butterfly
Women's Marks
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, Anne Bowles clocks a new team record with a time of 105.76 in the finals, earning the Keydets five points
- In the prelims of the 400-yard IM, Sarah Liebenow recorded a new women's team record of 4:49.74
Team Records
- In the 400-yard medley relay, Noelle Tong, Bowles, Jillian Maher and Kate Taylor swam a 4:02.37, setting a new women's record in the process
- Castle, Chase Lane, Ty Blackwell and Matthew Picard were up to the challenge, setting the new men's record in the 400 medley, clocking in at 3:20.39
More Notable Finishes
- Individually, the Keydets had some top-10 finishes, led by Chase Lane's fourth-place time of 55.04 to collect 15 points for the VMI men
- In the 400-yard IM, Elijah Fields would earn VMI 11 points with his eighth-place finish (4:06.49)
- Lane Jones would close out the diving in strong fashion, finishing 5th in the 1-meter
- Ryder Creal and Craig Swain also performed well, finishing 14th and 16th in the 1-meter, respectively
