VMI falls to SoCon leader Samford at home

LEXINGTON, Va.
– Behind a season-high 16 points from VMI freshman guard Corey Chesley, the VMI basketball team battled hard but fell to current Southern Conference leader Samford by a 102-63 score Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall.
 
With his previous season-best scoring output of six points vs. Presbyterian back in early December, the White Plains, Maryland, native exploded for 16 points on 4-7 shooting from the field and went 8-for-11 from the free throw line coming off the bench.
 
Sophomore Taeshaud Jackson II also scored in double figures with 16 points on the day by going 6-8 from the field, while freshman Stephen Olowoniyi nearly earned a double-double by scoring nine points and tracking down eight rebounds.

*A stingy Samford defense caused 21 VMI turnovers on the day leading to 29 points off turnovers
