VMI nearly completes comeback in 78-71 loss at Richmond

Bradley’s new career-high 26 points not enough as VMI falls to Spiders

RICHMOND, Va. – Despite a new career-high 26 points by junior guard Rickey Bradley, Jr., the VMI basketball team's second-half comeback bid came up just short as host University of Richmond earned a 78-71 win over the Keydets Saturday night at the Robins Center in Richmond, Virginia.

VMI falls to 6-7 to finish up non-conference play while the Spiders improve to 5-9 on the season.

Game Summary
*VMI jumped ahead of the Spiders early and gained a 20-12 advantage by the second media timeout. The Keydets led by as many as 10 points in the sequence, pulling ahead by a 20-10 margin at the 12:07 mark.
*Richmond went on an 18-0 run from that point to make the score 32-22 in the Spiders' favor until the 2:08 mark when a Robert Peters layup ended VMI's eight-minute scoring drought
*The Keydets fought back in the second half and twice pulled within four points to attempt a comeback bid. VMI was within striking distance until the very end, coming within five points to make the score 76-71 with seven seconds remaining on the clock

Key Stats
*Bradley's 26 points broke his former career best of 24 points set against Wofford in the regular season finale of his freshman 2022-23 season. He led the team with 11 points in the first half and poured in 15 during the second half
*Tan Yildizoglu scored 15 points on the night, just two shy of his career-high of 17 set against Charleston Southern last month
*Freshman center Kaden Stuckey contributed 10 points, just two shy of his season high. He also logged a season-best two steals during the contest
*All nine of Linus Holmstrom's points came on three-pointers, marking seven times this season the freshman has registered three treys in a single game
