VMI falls to ETSU in SoCon opener

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The VMI basketball team rallied to tie the score at 38 apiece with host ETSU but could not sustain the momentum as the Bucs earned an 84-69 win over the Keydets Wednesday afternoon at Freedom Hall in the Southern Conference opener for both schools.
 
ETSU's Jaden Seymour led the Bucs with his first career triple double and only the third in school history as he totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. John Buggs III led the Bucs with a career-high 33 points on the day, just three shy of the school record.
 
Game Summary
*The Keydets fell behind early in the opening half but rallied from 16 points down over the final six minutes of the half to tie the score at 38-38 at the break
*VMI's rally was fueled by four treys over the six minutes, including two from freshman Linus Holmstrom, one by TJ Johnson and another by Augustinas Kiudulas
*ETSU's Seymour scored 13 of his 18 points in the first half, while Buggs scored 24 points in the second half
*Holmstrom and Rickey Bradley led the Keydets with 14 points apiece while Kiudulas and Johnson both finished with 13 points
*ETSU's Quimari Peterson also scored in double figures with 12 on the day
