LEXINGTON, Va. – Coming off a 21-17 win over Furman, the VMI Football Team remains home, hosting 10th-ranked Mercer on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Foster Stadium.

VMI enters Saturday on a high note, capturing its first win of the 2024 season as it topped the reigning Southern Conference Champion Furman Paladins 21-17 at home on Saturday. After the win, VMI's Shamus Jones was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts, leading the team with 13.0 tackles, a blocked kick and an interception. Despite being doubled up in time of possession, the Keydets capitalized on two turnovers and were a perfect 3-for-3 in the red zone to earn the victory.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Ranked No. 10 in the Stats Perform FCS Poll, the Mercer Bears are currently 13th in the AFCA Coaches Poll. The Bears enter Saturday after a closely-contested victory over No. 23 ETSU in Macon, getting 20 of its points off turnovers in the win. The victory was Mercer's fourth over a top-25 team this year, with its lone loss coming at Samford. Mercer's defense has been dominant, leading the country in third down defense, defensive touchdowns (6), interceptions (19), rushing defense (54.3), team sacks (3.44), tackles for loss (8.1) and turnovers gained (26).

VMI and Mercer have met just 10 times in their history, with the Bears winning seven of the matchups and enter Saturday having won the last two games in the series. Prior to 2022, VMI won two straight.
