LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball and William & Mary have announced an agreement to play their midweek non-conference game at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia, on April 30 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
"Playing at War Memorial Stadium this season is an incredible honor," says VMI Baseball Head Coach
Sam Roberts. "The Morgan Family, the history of the stadium, and the opportunity to expand our brand will make this experience awesome."
War Memorial Stadium, with a capacity of 3,700, is home to the Peninsula Pilots baseball club, an NCAA and MLB-sanctioned college summer baseball franchise in the Coastal Plain League. The stadium, built in 1948, is named War Memorial Stadium as a tribute to those who fought for our nation in World War II.
Special features at the stadium include a state-of-the-art video board and field lighting system, 18 patio-style corporate boxes, a picnic area with a concrete/interlocking paver surface, and a full-service Tiki Bar. New dugouts, a new sound system, a party deck, a renovated clubhouse, and restroom facilities are just a few more of the improvements that have been made to the Peninsula's ballpark to enhance the overall fan experience.
Many MLB greats have played at the historic site throughout its history, including Barry Bonds, Satchel Page, Johnny Bench, and many others who reached The Show. Current VMI first baseman
Grayson Fitzwater, pitcher
Caden Plummer, and assistant coach
Trey Morgan played for the Pilots at War Memorial Stadium last summer.
The remaining non-conference schedule will be released at a later date. Stay tuned for ticket and group outing information along with promotional events.
