Keydets close out 2024 campaign against Terriers

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men's Soccer will face Wofford on Saturday in the regular season finale at Patchin Field.
 
The Keydets (5-9-2, 0-4-0 SoCon) look to enter the Southern Conference Championship on a positive note while the Terriers (6-6-2, 2-2) seek a higher seed as both teams sit in the bottom four with the top two teams earning a first-round bye and hosting rights.
 
Keys to the Keydets
 
Keydets End Non-Conference Slate. VMI hosted Queens (NC) in its final non-league battle on Tuesday where the Keydets fell, 3-0.
 
Southern Conference Championship. With the season ending on Saturday, the SoCon title will be up for grabs next week. VMI will be the sixth seed.
 
Home Stretch. VMI will end its season with five of its last six matches at Patchin Field.
 
1, 2, 3 in History. Alexei Royar, Cole Mooney, and Drew Menges rank top three in program history in minutes played by a non-goalie.
 
Moving Up. With at least two games remaining, Mooney and Royar are on track to move into the top five all-time in career games played. They sit at 68 and need to play in 70.
 
The Ultimate Assist. Mooney is two assists shy from moving into the top five all-time in career assists.
 
Home Sweet Home. VMI has started 4-0 at home for the first time ever and is currently 5-3 at Patchin Field. The four-straight home wins is the longest such streak since 1994.
 
Home Goal Differential. The Keydets have outscored their opponents, 22-10, when playing on Patchin Field.
 
Martin the Martian. Grant Martin leads the team with six goals and 14 points. He is second in the conference in goals and third in points.
 
Spreading the Love. Anthony Huang leads the team and the league in assists with six, ranking 43rd in the country.
 
No Days Off. Only three Keydets have played in all 16 matches: Martin, Woongchan Oh, and Royar.
 
Leading the League. The Keydets lead all SoCon teams in assists and shots.
 
Big Shots. Mooney has produced a conference-leading 37 shots with over two shots
per game while Huang has tallied 31 shots, good enough for second in the league.
 
Top 50 in the Country. VMI ranks 10th in saves per game and 24th in shots per game.
 
Murphy Minutes. Murphy has played in nearly 1,300 minutes and has recorded 77 saves between the posts with a clean sheet and two shared shutouts.
 
Life Saver. Murphy ranks seventh in saves per game with over five while standing third in total saves with 73 in NCAA DI.
 
Series History
- VMI is 4-22-1 against Wofford.
- Four wins is the most against a single SoCon team.
- First meeting was in 1996 where the Keydets took home a 2-0 victory.
- Last season resulted in a 1-0 loss on the road for VMI.
- This will be the 12th matchup in Lexington, VA.
