VMI snags 2-0 victory against SC State

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over South Carolina State Friday afternoon at Patchin Field in a quick step out of conference on the final weekend of the regular season.

With the win, VMI earned its sixth victory of the year, tying its most regular season wins since the 2018 campaign. The Keydets improve to 6-9-2, 1-6-1 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 1-14 for the year.

Game Summary
* The schools went back and forth trading shot attempts for the majority of the contest
* VMI senior Lauren Fyfe earned her first career game-winning goal in the 83rd minute (82:33) when she intercepted an errant SC State pass deep in Bulldog territory and shot the ball from outside the goalbox and into the upper left corner to put VMI ahead with only seven minutes left in regulation. The goal was her third career goal at VMI and first of the 2024 season.
* Teammate Riley Boucher added an insurance goal moments later in the 86th minute (85:29) when she took a forward pass from Gianna De Cicco and put it past the Bulldog keeper for another VMI tally. The goal marked three consecutive games with a goal for Boucher as she now has a team-high eight for the year
* VMI sophomore keeper Brookelynn Webster earned her first career win as she played the second half and logged three saves to preserve the Keydet victory
