LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling held their annual Wrestling in Barracks intrasquad match Thursday evening in the New Barracks courtyard in front of VMI staff, cadets, and families.
In 10 rounds of action, the black team narrowly defeated the red squad, 23-22. VMI will begin the regular season on November 2 at the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia.
The red team started strong at 125 and 133 pounds with a decision from
Cody Tanner followed by a
Dyson Dunham major decision. It was back-and-forth action throughout the night as both teams traded blows with five straight technical falls. In the final matchups of the evening, the black team's
Toby Schoffstall took down the red team's
River Carroll in an 8-5 decision at 197 pounds before
Josh Evans toppled
Drake Garrison at 285 pounds to reverse the score and seal the win for the black team.
