Women’s Soccer falls to Chattanooga on Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team fell by a 3-1 score to visiting Chattanooga on Senior Day Sunday afternoon in a closely contested SoCon matchup at Patchin Field.
 
With two regular-season home games left on the schedule, the match marked one of the final times that seniors Whitney Tracy, Isabella Bruzonic, Lauren Fyfe, Audrey Davis, Sedona Dancu, Delilah Martindale, Alexa Avery and Courtney Smith stepped foot in competition at Patchin Field.
 
VMI falls to 5-9-2, 1-6-1 on the season while the Mocs improve to 6-7-3 overall and 5-3 in league play.

*The Keydets got on the board first in just the second minute of the game when a cross from Katy Layman deflected off a Chattanooga defender and Riley Boucher recovered to strike the ball into the lower left corner of the net for an early 1-0 VMI advantage. *The Mocs responded with three unanswered goals the remainder of the match starting with Caroline Richvalsky scoring in the 17th minute (16:50) off a cross from Clarissa Salinas to equalize
*With two seconds before halftime, Sophia Mize scored what came to be the game-winning goal at the 44:58 mark when she struck the ball into the upper left corner following assists from Richvalsky and Nicole Solete
*Chattanooga scored an insurance goal in the 78th minute (77:10) when Salinas took a shot the bounced off the crossbar, after which she took the rebound and slotted it into the net for the Mocs' third goal of the match

*Both teams accounted for 13 shots a piece on the days
*A physical match featured 30 total fouls between the schools
*UTC goalie Caroline Ekern earned the win with five saves on the day while VMI's Whitney Tracy took the loss despite a pair of saves during the contest
