Keydets topped by Samford at home

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team fell by a 5-0 score Friday afternoon at Patchin Field to visiting Southern Conference foe Samford University.
 
With the loss, VMI falls to 5-8-1, 1-5 on the season while Samford improves to 7-6-2, 4-1-1.
 
Scoring Summary
* The Bulldogs got on the board early and snuck in a goal 20 seconds after the opening kickoff as Whitaker Buchanan sent in a cross to Samantha De Luca for the game-winning score
* Layton Glisson scored her third goal of the year as she took a pass from De Luca and put in a goal at the 9:56 mark
* Moments later, Buchanan took a pass from De Luca and kicked it in for a goal in the 14th minute (13:17)
* Samford continued its momentum in the second half as Glisson scored her second goal of the match after taking a cross from Maison Wells
* The Bulldogs' Anna Major scored her second goal of the season after taking a pass from Buchanan and knocking it in for the final tally of the game
 
Key Stats
* Samford's Samantha De Luca and Whitaker Buchanan both finished with one goal apiece to go with a pair of assists
* VMI was led by Lauren Fyfe, Barrett Callejo, Delilah Martindale and Eva Torres who were all credited with one shot a piece during the match
* Peyton Hull earned the win as goalkeeper in 77 minutes of play as she logged one save for the afternoon. VMI's Whitney Tracy took the loss with three goals allowed. VMI keeper Brooke Webster logged 71 minutes in the cage as a reserve and totaled seven saves for the day while allowing two goals
* Corner kicks were even for both squads and Samford took four on the day to VMI's three
