About the Keydets:
It has been an outstanding season for head coach Nick Regan's Keydets. Highlights include:
  • VMI posted its first Division 1 win since 2014 last Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over Radford University on Drill Field #2
  • VMI's Kyle Grant and Dylan Holbach earned the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of September 26. It is the first SoCon weekly honor for the program since the 2002 season
  • The Keydets defeated Mary Baldwin University 5-1 on Tuesday, the most tallies for program in a single game in 19 years
  • With Tuesday's win, the third of the year, the Keydets have the most victories since the 2013 season with nine games remaining on the regular season schedule and at least one conference tournament contest
  • So far this season, the 17 goals conceded is the fewest since the 2004 campaign through nine games
About the Bears:
Mercer is 4-1-4 overall this season, following a 0-0 tie at Utah Valley Saturday. Barzee Blama has five goals and an assist to rank second in the conference in goals and third in points. Keeper Trevor McMullen paces the SoCon with a 0.414 goals against average, a .900 save percentage and four shutouts.

History:
When these two teams last squared off, it was in the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament on November 4.  VMI, the no. 6 seed, nearly pulled off an upset, but fell 2-1 to no. 3 Mercer in a contest played at ETSU. Grant Martin headed in a corner kick with about 8:30 remaining on the game clock to cut the Bear advantage to one but the Keydets could get no closer.
