RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. – The VMI men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2023 season Saturday evening with a 2-0 victory over Maritime College in a non-conference contest.
Freshman
Yeirin Mejia and junior
Woongchan Oh each scored second-half goals in a game that VMI outshot the Privateers 17-2.
Notables:
- After a scoreless first half, Mejia scored on a feed from freshman Kyle Grant at 59:47
- Oh added an insurance tally nine minutes later from freshman Jesse Lee
- Sophomore keeper Zack Murphy made two stops to earn the first shutout of his collegiate career
- The Keydets held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks
- Augusto Lebron made five saves for Maritime
- The game started a half hour later than the scheduled time due to transportation problems and ended after 76 minutes

VMI will stay in New York state and square off with Long Island University Monday at 1 p.m. in a game to be played at Adelphia University in Garden City, N.Y.
