VMI hosts ETSU this weekend in home finale

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team hosts East Tennessee State University (ETSU) this weekend in the Keydets final home series of the 2023 season. The important Southern Conference three-game set in Gray-Minor Stadium will feature Senior Day on Saturday, where the program's eight seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

Last Time:
VMI got excellent work from three pitchers Sunday to defeat The Citadel 3-2 in the last game of a SoCon road series. Freshman Marcus Van Alstine got his first collegiate start on the hill and made the most of it, keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for his first four innings. Jack Thompson allowed just one hit in his 1 2/3 innings of relief and Will Riley gave up just one hit and one walk in three innings to earn the save. Van Alstine earned the win, giving up just two hits and the three Keydet pitchers allowed just four hits combined on the day.  

Jimmy Koza connected on a two-run triple and Trey Morgan had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base.

Keydet Senior Saturday:
VMI will honor eight Keydets Saturday that have had a huge impact on the program; Morgan, Zac Morris, Justin Starke, JT Inskeep, Ty Barker, Jacob Farrar, Will Lopez and Nathan Light.  

About ETSU:
The Bucs defeated UNC Asheville 12-6 on Tuesday after honoring the team's 19 seniors on Senior Day. Five players had multiple hits to improve ETSU's record to 21-25 overall (6-9 in the Southern Conference).

Nick Iannantone paces the offense with a .384 average and a .462 on base percentage. Cameron Sisneros hits .376 with a team-best 12 home runs and a .657 slugging percentage. Nathanial Tate is one of the top starting pitchers in the conference, ranking fifth in ERA (4.59), fourth in batting average against (.234), third in innings pitched (68.2), third in strikeouts (73) and fourth in wins (6).
