LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team fell 22-15 to Mercer University Sunday in the third and final game of a Southern Conference series from Gray-Minor Stadium. The two teams split a doubleheader on Friday, and the squads combined for 86 runs over the weekend.
The Bears (26-15/8-4) took advantage of 17 hits and 13 walks to have big innings of six in the third and fifth innings and five in the sixth.
How it happened:
Mercer opened an 8-2 lead after its six-run third inning, but VMI countered with two in the third and five in the fourth to go ahead 9-8. The Bears took the lead for good with 11 combined runs in the fifth and sixth frames.
