LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team will renew its rivalry with Norfolk State University Wednesday, traveling across the state for a non-conference game Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Marty L. Miller Field.

Player of the Week:
Junior outfielder
Cole Jenkins had a huge week at the plate last week and was recognized by numerous outlets for his performance. He earned the
Perfect Game/Rawlings and
Southern Conference Player of the Week Awards and was also named one of
Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week.
Jenkins had a breakout performance Thursday in a
SoCon doubleheader sweep at Western Carolina University. He drilled four home runs (two in each game) and finished the day with six hits and six RBI. The
Mechanicsville, Va. native also hit well in
VMI's midweek non-conference game at VCU Tuesday, going 2-4 with a triple, a run and a stolen base. For the week in three games, Jenkins hit .571 with six RBI and six runs with a 1.571 slugging percentage. He stole two bases and drew a walk to help the
Keydets improve to 18-14 overall and 5-3 in the league.
National Rankings:
*The Keydets have the best batting average (.335) in Division I baseball and the most stolen bases (128). VMI is 15
th in scoring (8.9 runs per game), ninth in slugging percentage (.546) and 13
th in on base percentage (.429).
Last Meetings:
VMI hosted the Spartans in a three-game series March 17-19 in Gray-Minor Stadium and swept the series 14-4, 11-9 and 15-4. The Keydets broke the NCAA Division I record for most stolen bases in an inning with nine in the second frame in the series finale, snapping a mark that had been on the books since the 1993 season. VMI stole 14 bases overall to break the school record for most stolen bases in a game.
About Norfolk State:
The Spartans dropped two of three last weekend to Long Island University in Northeast Conference play. NSU is 7-22 overall and 5-7 in the NEC.
Dionte Brown has a team-best .349 batting average, 16 runs, 17 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Manny Jackson is hitting .333 and Justin Journette has a .303 average with a team-high four home runs.
