LEXINGTON, Va. – Juniors
Trey Morgan and
Cole Garrett combined for seven hits Saturday as the VMI baseball team defeated visiting UNC Greensboro (UNCG) 13-9 Saturday in a Southern Conference matchup from Gray-Minor Stadium.
Notables:
*VMI improves to 16-12 overall (3-2 SoCon), already matching last season's win total with roughly half the season left to play
*After taking the first two games of the series, it is the first conference series win for first-year heads coach

How it happened:
VMI rode starter
Nathan Light to a 7-1 lead after six innings, but UNCG rallied late after the Keydets opened a 13-4 edge in the eighth. The Keydets had big innings of three runs each in the fifth and sixth and five in the eighth; the Spartans scored three in the eighth and five in the ninth.
Highlights:
*Garrett was 3-3 with a double, a home run and two walks
*Morgan finished 4-5, with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBI
*Garrett needed just a triple for the cycle, Morgan was short only a home run
*
Justin Starke homered and was 2-4 on the afternoon with a walk and three runs
*
Cole Jenkins also delivered a home run and finished 2-4
*
Brett Cook hit a three-run double in the eighth inning and had two hits
*
Ty Swaim had two hits, including a double
*Light worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one run, four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts to earn the victory
*Dosi Jonas was 4-4 with two doubles, two home runs, three runs and five RBI for UNCG (13-14/2-3)
