LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team held on to defeat Coppin State University 14-11 Sunday to sweep the three-game non-conference series in Gray-Minor Stadium. The
Keydets took both ends of a doubleheader Saturday and it is the second series sweep of the young season.
VMI is now 8-0 on the season at home and has won eight of its last nine games. The Keydets won 15 consecutive home games in the 2007 season.
Junior
Cole Jenkins went 4-5 on the day with three doubles and three RBI and
Trey Morgan was 3-4 with two stolen bases and fell just a home run short of hitting for the cycle.
How it happened:
VMI jumped out early with four runs in the fourth and three in the third. The visitors climbed back in the game with five runs in the fourth but VMI had another four-run inning in the fifth. The Eagles cut the lead to just one (12-11) with four runs in the eighth but the Keydets pushed across two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.
