VMI Head Coach James Purpura
"It was not a good enough effort today. We can't have starts to games like we did turning the ball over and handing them opportunities. We got down 6-1 early and the game after that was tied. I'm proud of the guys for not quitting, and after halftime we were able to win the second half by fixing a lot of our early mistakes. However, it was too much to overcome. We didn't get the possession margin, only winning 27 percent of the faceoffs and we got out-groundballed. There were some key takeaways for our young program to learn from moving forward against a team that won the MAAC regular season last season and played in the conference championship. We just finished three games in eight days. We will certainly watch the tape, make corrections, and look to be better next week."
