Norris, Ripley Earn MAAC Weekly Honors

EDISON, N.J. – After helping VMI to a 10-9 double-overtime victory over Queens University last Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina, VMI senior attack Scout Ripley and freshman goalie Adam Norris received weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Monday afternoon.

Ripley was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and Norris was recognized as both the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week.

Against the Royals, Ripley had a career-high five goals - including the double overtime walk-off goal to lead the Keydets to victory and their first OT win since the 2014 season. Ripley scored half the team's goals and started the first half with a hat trick. He shot the ball at 55.5 percent with five of his nine shots ending up in the back of the net. He also added two groundballs to secure extra possession time.

Norris, a freshman keeper from Yorktown, New York, anchored the VMI defense and made a career-high 22 saves on 31 shots faced in his second collegiate start - including a point-blank opportunity in the first overtime. His 71 percent save percentage played a large role in the Keydets winning their first overtime game since 2014. Norris also was great outside the cage with six groundballs and quarterbacking the Keydets to a 91 percent success rate in the clear.

The Keydets return to action Friday night at home to face former SoCon rival High Point at 7 p.m. at Drill Field #2.
