ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Despite a career and game-high 21 points from freshman guard
Koree Cotton, the VMI men's basketball team fell 67-47 at Navy Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Cotton has reached double figures in the last seven games and surpassed his previous collegiate best of 18 points set Saturday against Clarks Summit University. He also tied a career high with four three pointers.
How it happened:
*The game was tied 5-5 after a three pointer from VMI's
Brennan Watkins at 16:35 of the first half, but the Midshipmen went on a 19-4 run over the next 10 minutes to go ahead 24-9
* Navy led 31-20 at the half, Watkins had 11 points over the game's first 20 minutes
Inside the box score:
*Watkins finished with 14 points and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal

DJ Nussbaum and
Devin Butler each set career highs with seven rebounds on the night
*
Taeshaud Jackson II had nine boards to tie for the game high and also scored four points
*Austin Benigni and Donovan Draper each scored 15 points for Navy. Draper added nine rebounds and five steals
*Navy forced 26 turnovers
