Furman hangs on for 1-0 win over VMI Men’s Soccer on Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's soccer team played one of the top teams in the Southern Conference tough on Saturday, but fell 1-0 to Furman University on Senior Day on Patchin Field.

Manager Josh Licona, defender Malcolm McIntosh, midfielder Jakub Mihulka and midfielder Warner Collier were recognized in a pre-match ceremony.

The Paladins scored the game's only goal on a Luke Tandy free kick at the 26:01 mark of the first half. The Keydets had several chances to tie the game, including several late in the contest.



How it happened:
*VMI had 11 shots on the afternoon and held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks
*The Keydets fired the last three shots of the contest, including two in the final minute. An Amari Benjamin attempt was saved by the keeper and Timofey Dovgalyuk had a shot go wide as time expired
*Sophomore keeper Zack Murphy made six saves
*Yeirin Mejia had two shots, including one on net, while Colin Blandford also had two shots
*Aaron Salinas had four saves for Furman (7-3-1/2-0 SoCon)

The Keydets return to Patchin Field Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference game against Regent University.
