ETSU Defeats VMI Men’s Soccer

Keydets hold 17-8 edge in shots

LEXINGTON, Va. – Despite holding a substantial edge in total shots, the VMI men's soccer team was defeated Saturday by East Tennessee State University (ETSU) 3-0 in a Southern Conference game on Patchin Field. The match was the final home game for the Keydets this season.

Each team fired five shots in the first half and VMI outshot the Bucs 12-3 after intermission, including several good opportunities. Rider Holcomb had back-to-back chances early in the second half and Cole Mooney followed up with a good opportunity off a Holcomb rebound that the ETSU keeper kept out of the net. Grant Martin had a shot with 19 minutes left stopped by the goalie and missed a rebound shot just wide.

How it happened:
*ETSU had two goals in the first 12:16 of the game and added an insurance tally with just under 20 minutes on the final clock
*VMI keeper Zack Murphy made two saves
*Cole Hunter had five stops for the Bucs (6-5-2/2-0-1 SoCon)
*The Keydets held a 17-8 advantage in total shots; Martin had a team-high five, while Holcomb and Adam Senna each had three
