Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The VMI men's soccer team led for most of the game Wednesday night but Howard University rallied for a 2-1 non-conference win in Greene Stadium.
Sophomore Rider Holcomb scored on a left-footed blast from about 35 yards out that found the top right corner of the net on an assist from Woongchan Oh at 16:28 of the first half. The Keydets held the 1-0 lead until the Bison scored twice late in the match.
The Keydets controlled the late action and had several chances to tie, including shots from Cole Mooney, Freddy Ferguson and Drew Menges in the final five minutes.
How it happened:
*The Keydets had 10 shots and eight shots on goal, including two shots on net from Colin Blandford
*Howard scored its goal off a corner kick as Roman Stallings headed in the corner feed with 20 minutes left. VMI was whistled for a foul in the box just over two minutes later and the Bison converted on the penalty kick
*Zack Murphy made six saves for VMI
*Benjamin Hoeslii made seven stops for Howard
