Keydets Fall to Eagles in High-Scoring Second Half

LEXINGTON, Va. - Down 2-1 late in the second half following a goal by sophomore Isabella Bruzonic, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a close 3-1 score to visiting Morehead State Thursday evening at Patchin Field.
 
Both teams went scoreless in the opening half before exploding for four goals in the latter.

Game Summary
  • The Eagles got on the board in the 58th minute with a Hadley Cytron goal off a rebound from the crossbar shot by Nicole Fiantaco. In the 75th minute, Eli Soderberg scored off a short cross from Erin Fite in what came to be the game-winning goal.
  • VMI's Bruzonic put VMI on the board moments later (81:39) with a goal from the top of the goalbox after a forward pass from Daniela Monastero with under 10 minutes to play.
  • Fiantaco added an insurance goal for the Eagles with three minutes left in regulation off an assist from Sejla Podzic.

Close Calls
The Keydets took five shots at the Morehead State net, including a shot by Hannah White midway through the first half that sailed just above the crossbar. Sedona Dancu was credited with two shot attempts while Madison Hornig had one.
 
Next Up
The Keydets travel to Athens, Ohio, this weekend for a Sunday matchup with Ohio University. Kickoff is set for a 1 p.m. start at Chessa Field.
